My wife Joan and I celebrated our
65th birthdays (I was born June 10, 1942 and Joan was born
June 11, 1942) by going to the Mt. Everest Base Camp in
Tibet. We spent the night of June 7, 2007 at the tent village
9 kilometers below the Base Camp.
When I started taking pictures of the sunrise on
June 8, I noticed that the entire top of the mountain was
a giant cross. It was gone by noon. We later found out that
it is only visible a short time of the year and during that
time the top of the mountain usually is clouded over by
the time the sun is out enough to illuminate the cross,
is the sky is clear at all. So the chances of capturing
the same pictures are slim if tourists could even go to
Tibet, which the Chinese government is not allowing at this
time.
